Lt Gerald Reddington
Reverand Gerald Alfred Reddington

Former Lt Gerald Reddington passed away on 17th June, 2020.
Gerald was the youngest of three sons. He was commissioned from Eaton Hall into the Regiment to serve alongside his elder brother, John, joining the 1st Battalion in Gibraltar in June 1954. He served with the Battalion in Gibraltar until the end of his National Service commitment. After returning to civilian life he worked in the city. It was during this time that he married actress Valerie Gaunt, a successful actress (not least in the Hammer House of Horrors film ‘The Curse of Frankenstein’). Meanwhile he had also joined 7DWR, albeit as a ‘distant’ officer and enthusiastically served with them, principally at their Annual Camps, for many years. A deeply committed Christian he worked closely with Centrepoint, a charity for the homeless, for which he was chairman for 11 years. During this time he tragically lost his son at the age of nine to heart problems. At the age of 45, he was ordained as a deacon, while still working in the city, finally becoming a full time priest at the age of 51 – all at the same time as training to be a psychotherapist, because he thought it ‘would be useful’. He was a highly successful vicar, memorable for his enthusiasm, memorable and thoughtful sermons, his ability to ‘put bums on seats’ and his empathy for those for those in need.
